For most who attended the school, the early section of the school with its large high ceilinged classrooms and the famous “brick corridor” remains a focus for nostalgia. It has become a symbol of permanence and security in a constantly changing city. Students still play in the old quadrangle area and on the tree-lined oval just as their predecessors did. Teachers still use the same staff rooms, classrooms and even the same blackboards. Photographs of previous principals and of earlier times add to the sense of permanence and continuity. For even the casual passer-by, the sight of the graceful old front building surrounded by trees and lawn, provides a glimpse into a more leisurely past.
