A key milestone in the Telopea Park School story came in 1983 with the signing of An Agreement between the Government of Australia and the Government of the French Republic concerning the Establishment of a French – Australian School in Canberra”. The French and Australian flags symbolise the establishment of Telopea as bi-national school – Telopea Park School/ Lycée Franco-Australien de Canberra. The Le Burp” concept artwork circa 1986 produced by “Adgraphics” (Gary Deverson and Vincent de Gouw) to emphasise the likely French nature of the food at the school’s annual fete. The striking and much loved puppets from the Guignol Theatre, Lyon, France., Gnafron, Madelon, Guignol and the Gendarme, were a gift to the school from the Government of the French Republic in 1989 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution. They are normally on display in the foyer of the Primary School area and are seen by the younger students on a daily basis. It is worth recording that, when the puppets were being removed from their case in the foyer, some small children protested at the removal of “their toys”.
